What causes stress in students? In 8th grade Health we talk about stress and way to keep from getting stressed. I decided a cool way to have students learn about stress and ways to de-stress themselves would be to make an IMOVIE about how stress affects them. This idea came actually from the students themselves. One of our first activities in health is to talk about mental, emotional, social and physical health. It is a simple concept but one students rarely think about. They usually understand the importance of physical health but rarely think about the other dimensions of health. So in class we talk a lot about the other dimensions. To start of this quarter I decided to have them create a movie that will show what stress is like for an eight grader. Already the students identified what are the stresses in their lives. Now they will get to see how everyone else in class deals with their stress and way to keep their life full but happy. Maybe they will learn new ways to destress or even that they are not alone in their struggle as adolescents.
In this project we have created the assignment with a step by step way for them to create this project. I wish we had lots of time to really develop this project but we are going to jump into it and see what ideas the students come up with. We are very interested in seeing what happens when students have the opportunity to show us what they know with the use of technology. We will update this project as it unfolds.
We have just finished our project in three days. It was a fast group of lessons but the students took to the task in a very excited manner. Their videos will be ready on Monday. We will share them later.

Great project idea! I especially love this point:
“Maybe they will learn new ways to destress or even that they are not alone in their struggle as adolescents.”
You’re helping your students build a community of learners who support each other and share ideas. What a great way to help them feel more confident and less stressed! Can’t wait to see the finished projects!
